FOCUS: The Great Gatsby

The money was flowing, New York grew larger and larger just with a blink of the eye, the dresses were revealing more and more every weekend they went out and the amounts of alcohol were absurd. I'm talking about the roaring twenties, a period of prosperity where the nouveau riche lived as if the world was theirs. Last Thursday The Great Gatsby premiered at the Cannes festival, a gorgeous movie inspired on the book which told us all about lving in the twenties. The expectations for this movie were high, clothes designed by Miucci Prada, a great cast and not to forget the great amount of money that was spent.

Yesterday me and my best friend visited the cinema, just one day after the movie played at the Cannes festival we were already able to see it and we didn't want to miss this chance. The story is about Nick who moves to the big city to work in bonds, he lives next to the mysterious mr Gatsby who lives in a huge castle and throws parties every weekend. Nobody knows why and the more Nick hangs out with Jay Gatsby the more it becomes clear that all the parties have something to do with Nick's cousin called Daisy. A movie about prosperity, love and hope. I can't think of anything I didn´t like about this movie. I already read the book but my imagination didn´t even dare to go all out like director Luhrmann did. It was in 3D and almost every scened felt as if you could touch it yourself. Since I´m a fashionblogger I was focused on their clothing (great job miss Miucci!) the guys wore gorgeous suits and great straw hats. The woman were indulged with feathers, pearls and diamonds. But since I also have a weak spot for all things interior I also gasped a couple of times at the stage setting, it was perfect to the last detail. By now you've probably figured out that this post is going to be a complete homage and nothing bad is going to be said, but it's entirely justified. The picked music was very suprising, all the songs were modern hits by Jay-Z, a little bit of Alicia Keys and Lana del Rey was also present. I loved how they mixed these contemporary songs into a completely different decade, it suited the movie really well. I would say this movie is the perfect combination between Amelie, Mad men, Boardwalk Empire and The Titanic.

Gister heb ik de film The Great Gatsby gezien, een geweldige verfilming van een boek over de jaren twintig, een tijd waarin de alcohol en het geld rijkelijk vloeide. Ik vond alles aan de film geweldig, de kleding door Miucci Prada, de verzorging van het interieur, de muziek door onder andere Jay-Z en Lana del Rey en niet te vergeten de cast. Het verhaal gaat over Nick die naar New York verhuist om in de obligaties te gaan werken. Zijn mysterieuze buurman mr Gatsby heeft een groot huis waar in hij grote feesten geeft. Hoe meer Nick met hem omgaat hoe meer hij erachter komt dat al deze pracht en praal bedoeld is voor zijn nicht Daisy. De film is in 3D en dat maakt het eigenlijk nog beter, want hiermee komen we het dichtste bij wat iedereen eigenlijk wil na het zien van deze film: zelf geleefd hebben in deze feestelijke tijd.

WISHLIST: The Bulls and Birds Edition

Although I would've loved to show you a wishlist filled with shorts, crop tops and bikini's I realised it wasn't really suiting for all the weather extravagances. Therefore I decided to be realistic and show you an outfit with items that will keep you warm. In if it does get warmer you could just forget about the jackets I've added. This wishlist revolves around the boyfriendjeans, an item that has made his comeback for a couple of fashionseasons now but I still don't have one. Since I've totally rediscovered denim I seriously considering getting myself one. If you combine the items on the left with the boyfriend jeans you'll get a classy feminine look, great for dining out or a party. If you combine the jeans with the items on the right you'll get a comfy look which is a great outfit to wear when you're going shopping.

Hoewel ik jullie graag een wishlist had laten zien vol zomerse items als shortjes, korte topjes en bikini's is dit niet erg realistisch als je rekening de moodswings van het Nederlandse weer. Daarom besloot ik realistisch te blijven en een outfit te plaatsen waar in de trends voor deze zomer zijn verwerkt maar ook leuk is als het zonnetje niet schijnt. Of nog beter: waarmee je zelf het zonnetje in huis bent als de zon niet mee werkt! In deze wishlist komen enkele trends naar voren waaronder de boyfriendjeans, een spijkerbroek met een los model en liefst hier en daar wat  scheuren. De broek draait nu al enkele modeseizoenen mee, maar toch ben ik nog niet overstag gegaan. Terwijl ik de broek vaak heel leuk vind staan, vooral alles de combinatie tussen vrouwelijk en stoer goed in evenwicht is. Ik heb twee combinaties met de boyfriendjeans gemaakt, links zie je een wat vrouwelijkere look die ideaal is voor een avondje uit eten of een feestje. Het jasje van Supertrash vind ik prachtig, met het model van het populaire bouclé jasje van Chanel zit je altijd goed en het materiaal past helemaal bij de exotische trend voor deze zomer. Hoewel ik in de koude maanden het liefst wat donkerdere kleuren draag zie ik in de zomer toch liefst wat vrolijkers om mij heen, vandaar dat ik koos voor deze oranje tinten. Deze outfit bewijst ook nog eens dat oranje niet alleen gepast is op koniginnedag! Rechts een comfortable look, ideaal voor een middagje shoppen. T-shirts met grote letters zullen veel worden gespot dit seizoen, net als de combinatie zwart-wit. De loafers hierboven zijn van het merk Fab en zijn een goede optie als je net als mij niet zo gek bent op ballerina's (ik vind ze iets te tuttig). Alle bovenstaande items komen van de Bulls and Birds(je weet wel die reclame met dat ontzettend catchy nummertje), een leuke nieuwe webshop voor zowel mannen als vrouwenmode die zeker een bezoekje waard is.

EARPARTY: Portobello Market

The last couple of months I've been travelling a lot: Antwerp, London, Paris and a lot of cities in my own country, I've seen them all. All these experiences made me realise how beautiful our planet is and especially the people on it. It's wonderful to see that countries can be so different, even if they're really close to each other. One of my 2013 resolutions was to travel more so  now I can cross that off my list, although I'm planning on travelling a lot more the rest of this year. Or actually I'm planning on travelling for the rest of my life. I bought these earrings when I went to London to visit my friend Helen, we strolled around the Portobello Market when we came across these earrings, since they're bordeaux I just had to have them :)

How do you like my new beauties?

De afgelopen tijd heb ik veel gereisd: Antwerpen, Londen, Parijs en veel steden in Nederland, ik heb ze allemaal gezien. Door al deze nieuwe ervaringen realiseerde ik mij hoe mooi de wereld wel niet is en niet te vergeten de mensen de er op leven. Ook vond ik het interessant om te zien dat twee landen zo verschillend kunnen zijn, ook al liggen ze naast elkaar. Een van mijn goede voornemens van dit jaar was meer reizen, ik denk dat deze missie wel geslaagd is! Maar het jaar is nog lang niet voorbij en ik ben van plan nog veel meer reisjes te gaan maken. Deze oorbellen heb ik gekocht toen ik Helen opzocht in Londen, we liepen op de Portobello markt toen ik deze oorbellen zag liggen, en je ziet het vast al aankomen: ze zijn bordeaux dus ik moest ze gewoon hebben :)

PERSONAL: Roadtrip to Paris part I

Paris the city of love, aka forcing your boyfriend to kiss you because someone is taking pictures

Two weeks ago my boyfriend asked me if I wanted to join his friends and him on a roadtrip to Paris and I knew I had to take my analogue camera with me, there are so many beautiful things to photograph in Paris. Unfortunately my camera disagreed with me and decided to add flashes of light to almost every picture. Uuuuuugh dissapointment! But it looks a bit artsy so I still like how they turned out. 

My perfect day in Paris? Take the metro to the Mont Matre church, you'll have to walk a couple of stairs first but it's totally worth it. Not to mention all the interesting things taking place on the stairs, people who are trying to force you into buying a bracelet (my advice? Run! These people are so annoying) and there's also a guy who's doing all these amazing footballtricks on a lamppost.  Next? Have a picknick on one of the lawns and enjoy the gorgeous view. Visit the church, then walk past it to the plaza where all the street artists are situated, you could get a portret done or just enjoy watching all these talented people. If you keep walking you'll enter a very cute district called Abbesses, a great place to shop with a lot of unique boetiques and vintage stores. Buy some wine and bites at a local supermarket and take the metro to the Louvre garden, because this is a great place to enjoy the sunset while sitting around a huge fountain. When you're finished eating I suggest you walk through the gorgeous garden to the Seine, preferably to the famous bridge with all the love locks. End the night with a drink or go out at the partydistrict called Chatelet, but don't forget that almost every nightspot closes at 2AM. Enjoy!

Hier boven zie je een paar fotos gemaakt in Parijs, helaas is mijn analoge camera een beetje geflipt en zijn er rare lichtflitsen op de fotos gekomen, erg jammer maar het ziet er wel lekker artistiek uit. Ik heb het heel leuk gehad in Parijs en ik heb ook wel wat tips voor jullie, zelf heb ik veel van het nachtleven meegemaakt maar ik zal mijn perfecte dag in Parijs beschrijven: Neem de metro naar de Mont Matre kerk, een mooie kerk maar je moet wel veel trappen op. Het uitzicht is het helemaal waard en onderweg kom je veel leuke dingen tegen. De kerk is erg mooi van binnen maar het leukste ligt achter de kerk: het schilderpleintje. Hier zitten alle straatschilders klaar om een portret van je te maken. Als je verder doorloopt kom je in Abbesses terecht, een leuk wijkje met unieke boetiekjes en vintage winkeltjes. Koop een fles wijn en wat hapjes en neem vervolgens de metro naar de tuinen van het Louvre, de perfecte plek om te genieten van de zonsondergang terwijl je bij de fontein zit. Een wandeling door het park is ook aan te raden en vergeet niet om lekker langs de Seine te banjeren, ik vond vooral de brug met alle liefdes slotjes leuk. Veel plezier!

OUTFITPOST 35: Palm Print

I've finaly found the time to upload this outfitpost! These picture were taken on Thursday when Diede and Jessy visited me with their cameras to work on an interesting project, which I promise to show you as soon as it's done. The last couple of days were filled with a lot of fun things, I didn't only work on the filmproject with Jessy, I also went to Germany to discuss another exciting project. We were free from school so the boyfriend and me also payed a visit to Amsterdam where we visited a lot of vintage stores and also went to Ikea. The rumor that couples always fight in Ikea is false, we always have a great time. I bought a couple of things for my new room, entirely in line with my interior tips & tricks! 

I have this pants for a while now, I already wore them to the Creampr Bloggersevent but somehow I never found the time to show them to you. A shame because I'm crazy about them, the funky pattern and the bold color are exactly what I like in statement pants. Added a couple of items you've seen before and not to forget an armparty and a matching nailpolish (it's from Kiko and the quality is great). I bought these shoes about four years ago and I always managed to keep them clean, untill they came along to Paris that is...

Eindelijk kan ik jullie deze outfitpost laten zien, ik had het de afgelopen dagen zo druk met allemaal projecten en plannetjes! Deze fotos zijn donderdag genomen toen Jessy en Diede langs kwamen om een filmpje over mij en mijn blog te maken. Voor een ander leuk project waar ik mee bezig ben reisde ik af naar Duitsland, allemaal dingen die ik jullie nog zal laten zien. We hadden vrij van school dus brachten mijn vriendje en ik een bezoekje aan Amsterdam waar we een boel tweedehandswinkeltjes hebben bezocht en we gingen ook nog naar de Ikea. Het gerucht dat stelletjes altijd ruzie krijgen in de Ikea is op ons gelukkig niet van toepassing, wij vermaken ons altijd prima. Ik kocht wat spullen voor mijn kamer, helemaal volgens de tips en trucs die ik gaf in mijn interieur post!

Ik heb deze broek nu al een tijdje, ik droeg em eerder al naar het Creampr Bloggersevent maar ik vond nooit de tijd om de broek aan jullie te laten zien. Zonde want ik vind het echt een toppertje, het patroon de kleur, heerlijk. Ik voegde een paar items toe die al vaker voorbij zijn gekomen, een armparty en een fris nagellakje van Kiko (top kwaliteit!). Deze schoenen kocht ik vier jaar geleden en ik heb ze al die tijd netjes schoon gehouden, maar in Parijs ging het helaas mis.
